EDGEMONT VILLAGE CENTRE

CLIENT: DISTRICT OF NORTH VANCOUVER

NORTH VANCOUVER, BC, 2013-2014

The District of North Vancouver (DNV) retained a team led by Urban Forum Associates to develop a Plan and Design
Guidelines for Edgemont Village through a number of public workshops and open houses. The intention was to “refresh”
a 15-year old plan for the Village, which would guide future development and public realm improvements. UFA led the
process, which successfully engaged a variety of local public and private interests, to find consensus and develop sensitive design ideas for the Village’s built form and public realm.

The community was invited to a number of events, which began with three “Ideas Forums” to identify issues and opportunities and formed the basis of a Foundation Report outlining 15 design and planning principles. Three “Directions Forums” followed, to invite further feedback on the Report, and included a survey. Following this, a set of guidelines and policies were drafted and presented to the public. The final Plan was again presented in early 2014 for public feedback, and then presented to Council, which unanimously supported the Plan.

The resulting document describes a number of approaches for preserving and enhancing Edgemont Village through specific built form design strategies and public realm guidelines.
