UFA undertook a Town Centre Concept Plan for this Rocky Mountain resort community.

UFA led one of three international planning/design teams selected to compete in developing a Transit Oriented Development Masterplan for this 30-acre Calgary inner-city mixed use area.

Woodgrove Regional Town Centre Plan, 1997
UFA undertook a regional Town Centre Plan that identified strategies for adding new land uses and density to this suburban shopping centre.

UFA prepared a conceptual plan for a transit–oriented higher density complete community focused on two proposed rapid transit stations along Lougheed Highway as the catalyst for residential densification.
STREETSCAPE PROJECTS
GRANVILLE STREET REDESIGN
Downtown Vancouver BIA, 2008-2009
UFA was involved on behalf of the Downtown Vancouver BIA with the comprehensive redesign of Granville Street, which included new sidewalks, street furniture, custom lighting, landscape, signage, and the creation of a civic space. This $21 million project is Vancouver’s most significant streetscape project.
CITYWIDE STREET FURNITURE CONTRACT
City of Richmond, 2008
UFA worked with the City of Richmond to develop the Request for Proposals for a citywide street furniture turnkey contract. This includes consideration of issues such as streetscape design, street furniture placement, public art, lighting, signage, etc.
STREETSCAPE DESIGN STANDARDS
City of Vancouver, 2002
UFA prepared a comprehensive, detailed Streetscape Design Standards manual for the City of Vancouver, identifying a hierarchy of street types, and detailed streetscape design and placement standards. The SDS manual is a benchmark in streetscape design guidelines in British Columbia.
SOUTH GRANVILLE STREETSCAPE VISION
South Granville BIA, 2002
UFA prepared a detailed streetscape vision for this ten-block length of Granville Street, including detailed streetscape plans for each block, furniture placement guidelines, and the integration of public art.
DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT GUIDELINES
Mount Pleasant BIA, 2003
This project covered a broad range of urban design and streetscape issues for the historical yet fast-evolving Mount Pleasant area. These included facade massing and materials guidelines, streetscape design guidelines and pedestrian amenities.
VICTORIA HARBOUR PATHWAY
City of Victoria, 2007-2008
UFA co-led a team that prepared a masterplan and detailed design guidelines for a 5 km long urban waterfront walkway/bikeway through the heart of Victoria. Streetscape, street furniture lighting and public art were all integrated into the design.
SIDEWALK TASKFORCE
City of Vancouver, 2002
The principal of UFA was retained by the City as a professional urban design advisor to the Sidewalk Task Force, which addressed several issues of pedestrian sidewalk usage, amenity and safety.
GREEN NECKLACE GREENWAY
City of North Vancouver, 2004
UFA was on the team that developed the Green Necklace concept for an urban greenway that follows streets around the central core of North Vancouver.
TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS
SURREY CENTRAL TRANSIT VILLAGE PLAN
City of Surrey/Translink/GVRD, 2006
UFA co-led a multidisciplinary team that prepared a comprehensive Transit Oriented Development plan for Surrey, which integrated a rapid transit station and bus transfer into an emerging urban centre.
CANADA LINE RAPID TRANSIT PROJECT
RAVCO Project Office, 2003-2004
UFA co-facilitated a comprehensive public consultation process with politicians, staff, stakeholders and the public in the Richmond segment of the Canada Line (RAV) Project Pre-Design stage.
FRASER RIVER BRIDGE CROSSING
Translink, 2002
UFA contributed to the Socio-Community and Socio-Economic Impact Assessment, including participation in the public consultation process, for this major regional transportation infrastructure project.

UFA undertook route alignment and station location planning and urban design studies for the SkyTrain Millennium Line expansion through New Westminster, and participated in extensive public consultation.
PORTSIDE EASTLANDS WATERFRONT PLANNING
Vancouver, 1997–1999
UFA worked on a developer proposal for new convention, transportation and market development facilities, including reconfiguring Vancouver’s pre-eminent multi-modal waterfront transit interchange.
